Subject: Radiator or pump? IP: Logged
Message: '92 V6 overheats. OK on hwy. in cool weather, overheats in stop n' go traffic, runs too hot on warm days. New 180 therm and fanclutch. Radiator rodded 4 years ago, waterpump, 3 years old. Not enough circulation w/cap off and at temp (no bubbles either!) Frequent overflow from reservoir. Definitely not bad gauge/sensor.
How can I tell if radiator is clogged vs. waterpump failed?

Message: my guess is your radiator is partially obstructed most radiator shops can flow test it to tell for sure. I had the same problem with an 84 d-50 after the radiator was redone. unfortunatly the overheating cracked the head which is how I became a Dakota owner.

Message: My experience is that rodding doesn't buy you much time, I think your radiator is shot.

Message: Definately radiator. My 93 w/125k had same problem, then plastic tank cracked. Put in new rad w/metal tanks and temp guage never moves off 180 now even with A/C on in stop-n-go traffic here in south FL.
