I recently leased a brand new Dakota Quad Cab. It's got the 3.9 L V6 engine. 4x4 Sport. My fuel mileage seems pretty terrible. It's around 16 MPG on the highway, and around 14 around town. Is this normal? I mean, it's not like I have some monster V8 engine in it. It seems to me this is abnormal and I can't seem to find guidelines on any official Dodge site. It's obviously still under warranty, so should I get it looked at?

How many miles on it? If it's an auto, thats probally about right. It's a big old heavy quad-cab and has nearly twice the drive-train components of a 2x4. Mine gets 18mpg (Regular cab, 5-speed, 2x4, V-6). If you have fairly low miles, I didn't start seeing decent milage until 3500 miles.

It has about 12000 km on it, so that's about 7500 miles. Man, if this is normal, I'm amazed. Not like I had any choice, I needed the 4x4 and quad cab, but wow....

You might get better mileage with the 4.7 because the engine wouldn't have to work as hard to move a 4400 lb truck. That's why I went with the 4.7. I only have 100 miles on it so I don't have any mileage figures yet. Remember, the quad cab Dak only weighs 700 lbs less than a Quad Cab Ram.

On the newer Dakotas the compressor goes on and off whenever you have the fan on (A/C doesnt have to be on).

Took me 4 mos to realize this -brought it the dealer said it was normal -turning the fan on controls the minimum heat and cold.

If Inew that I would have been driving with my fan off the whole time.
