Message: I HAVE A 92 DAKOTA W/ A 3.9 V6... IT IDLES FINE SOMETIMES AND DIES OTHERS, SOMETIMES IT KINDA BOGGS DOWN (ONLY WHEN PUSHING THE GAS PEDDLE) LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING ENOUGH FUEL PRESSURE... CHECKED IT AND IS GETTING 32 PSI, WHEN REVED UP IT GOES UP TO ABOUT 40 PSI BUT DROP'S FAST... WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR TO DRIVE(STANDARD) IT KINDA SPUTTERS AND BACKFIRES THROUGH THE EXHAUST AND SOMETIMES THE INTAKE...? I AM SO CONFUSED... WHEN I GO I FLOOR IT AND IT BOGGS DOWN LIKE I SAID AND SPUTTERS AND BACKFIRES BUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS MAYBE EVEN A MIN. IT CATCHES BACK UP TO IT'S SELF AND DRIVES ALLRIGHT BUT WHEN I GET TO A STOP SIGN IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN... THE PROBLEM IS GETTIN WORSE AND WORSE... IT HAS 114k A LITTLE UNDER ACTUALLY... HAVE REPLASED THE CAP AND ROTOR, SPARKPLUGS, FUEL FILTER, THE WIRES ARE NEW AS WELL. CHANGING THE FUEL PUMP SOON... ON THE HIGHWAY IT WILL ALSO BOGG DOWN FOR JUST A SEC BUT WILL CATCH RIGHT UP, DOESN'T HAPPEN AS OFTEN ON THE HIGHWAY AND ONLY LAST FOR A SECOND... PLEASE HELP ME...! SOMEONE SAID IT COULD BE THE THROTTLE POSISION SENSOR, THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATAR, OR EVEN THE CAT. CONVERTER...

Message: the iac is two screws on the back of the throttle body, just clean it carefully and clean the housing it came out of. i think your timing chain is stretched, i had to change the chain in my 93 at 105k and had over an inch of slack, i had severe power loss from it. your backfiring is probably a result of it, you may have even skipped a tooth on the sproket, this would change your timing and possibly make the spark go when your valve is open creating the back fire through the exhaust and or intake. the chain can be changed at home for less then 100 but if you take it to the dealer be prepared for a 500+ bill.

Message: thanks for the advice 93dak4x4, my timing chain is messed up, you can here it roll, sounds like it does have slack in it... I am gonna change the fuel pump, 32 psi, is that right, it should be more...? I will change the EGR valve to... but, my mechanic buddy can't figure it out either... it is a bitch... what would i have to do if it broke a tooth of or evan jumped time, will it hurt the motor...?

Message: the motor will never run correctly with that chain in it, your fuel pump is fine. if you skip more teeth you can run your pistons into your valves and need a completely new motor. i reccomend changing the chain before you drive it again. if you can hear it you know its bad and it is definetely, in my mind, the cause of your problem
