Occasionally, in the mornings my V6 automatic has trouble shifting out of 1st gear, I stop and put it through all of the gears, but it doesn't help. After it revs out for a bit it will shift and act normal.
Then... when I get to where I'm going and put it into park the engine dies. It's happened when it was cold and warmed up- does not matter. Once or twice it happened when I was backing out of a steep driveway, still in reverse I hit the brakes at the top of the drive and it died.
Any suggestions?

Im glad i am not the only one that experiences this. Its not somethign that happens all of the time, just on occasion. Doesnt seem to be a big problem at all. I have in '02 BTW.

THE STALLING PROBLEM IS MOST LIKELY THE IDLE SENSOR THATS WHAT MINE WAS. THE DAKOTAS DONT SHIFT VERY GOOD WHEN THEY ARE COLD BECAUSE THEY HAVE A PROTECTION DEVICE THAT WONT LET THE TRANY
SHIFT RIGHT UNTILL THE FLUID REACHES OPERATING TEMP. CHECK IN YOUR OWNERS MAUAL. I WONT WORRY ABOUT IT MINE IS THE SAME.
