My check engine light came on a week ago, I got the code (p0442- medium leak detected in the evaporative purge system) What the hell doe that mean? Where do I even begin to look for a problem?
Help Please!

Just had mine fixed of the same problem.
I had a small leak AND a gross leak.
P0442 and P0455.
New gas cap fixed the minor leak.$10
And for the gross leak my mechanic told me "QUIT FILLING UP THE GAS TANK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING!!!"
Seems the computer will run a scan if the truck sets and idles for a few minutes.If you have the gas cap off and it happens to run a scan,it will register as a leak.
I would reset it and next time I fueled up it would register a leak again and the light would come back on.
Something I never thought of, but after he told me that it does make sense.The light hasn't been on again since he told me this.
