Message: gutting your cat might lead to problems with your o2 sensor...what year is your truck? newer trucks have an o2 sensor before and after the cat.

Message: ok this can be a sensitive issue, but here is the way i see it. if your cat is already bad...not serving its purpose then i say go ahead, because at that point you are doing the same thing to the environment as before. however, if your converter is still functional leave it alone and put up with the way your truck sounds. if you want it to sound good get a flowmaster 40, i love the way mine sounds. (and if we all gut our cats soon it will be like so cal...do we really want to put up with that?)

Message: Don't gut it, you'll loose low end. These motors need a little backpressure to run better. Get a Hi Flow Cat on there. It made a huge difference and only cost $30 for the part. If you don't have a welder, its about $50 at a muffler shop for the install.

Message: Dont do it man!!!! I have had the cat off of mine and it ran sloppy and was way to loud. I live in Tennesse where there is no state inpsection and even I got pulled over. I had a flowmaster on it but WAY TOO LOUD. Trust me. Just get a high flow cat. It will sound really good.

Message: Well I got the cat cut off. It is not loud at all, inside the cab there is no difference standing outside where the exhaust comes out by the back it does have a nice deep tone to the sound of the exhaust. The muffler is about in the middle of the truck and the exhaust pipe comes all the way to the back. The only differnce in performance is that I have more pickup when I am over 50 mph.
