I put a re-maned engine in my 87 Dakota. Everything went together the way it should and was cool. Had a small problem when I went to start it up (plastic bushing on distributer shaft broke off) so I had to take the intake manifold off the get it out.
I got a new gasket set from NAPA and when I was torking the intake, it cracked around the side of the thermostat housing! Took it to be welded and got another gasket set from NAPA. Went to put it back on again and it cracked agian! This time around the other side of the thermostat housing!(only had it torked to 25 ftlbs) this didn't happen the first time I put the intake on to the new engine.
I compared two leftover pieces of the front and rear cork gaskets.
1) from the original gasket that came with the new engine, and 2) from the NAPA gaskets. I found the NAPA gaskets to be about 1/16" thicker than the original gaskets that came with the new engine.
This is the only thing I can think of that would crack this intake in the middle like it did. What do you guys think?
Are there any aftermarket intakes I could buy?
What should I do?

Sorry to hear about your intake, man, but I'm in the process of putting a magnum intake on my 87 v6, if the intake and tbi unit work well with the engine, and all goes well, I'll sell you my intake, it is stock and runs like a charm. I'll keep you posted on the results to come. Make me a offer on my intake, and I'll get back to you/
