Message: You could put a v6 tb on v8, unless it's bored to a bigger size it won't do anyrhing for performance. The picture of the v6 tb ypu posted looks like some kind of factory overbore.

What if there were no loss or no significant loss in performance?
"The picture of the v6 tb ypu posted looks like some kind of factory overbore."
Definately not factory.

When it comes to mods, I didn't know there was any other way.
I had a friend with a flow bench, but it went up in smoke a couple of months ago. That's why I have it on a V8. I'm going to do some tests comparing performance with a stock V6 tb, modded V8 tb and this modded V6 tb.
This project was going to wait until spring, but with temps around 50, I just couldn't wait. My first test was a couple of 0-60 runs. I didn't make a control run with my regular V8 setup, but using figures from last fall, this setup ran just 1-1.5 seconds slower. That compares favorably with a stock V8 tb on my truck. I don't know if I was surprised or impressed, but I wasn't disappointed.
I guess the real test will come when a V6 comes available. The will probably be at least a couple of months away. I figure that I can still open this up another 10%.

i agree but, not all of us have access to machinery to do that type of work.

are you needing a test subject truck? i may be interested. i am currently running a stock V8 tb on my '00 3.9 QC.

Message: Daddio, thanks for the offer. Like I said, it will be a couple of months before I get around to the final product. I would prefer to have someone local do the test. That way I would have more control.
If I still have it on my V8 by then it will either mean that I'm impressed or just too lazy to switch back. As for now I see little or no difference between the modified V6 TB and a nearly stock V8 TB.

It would not surprise me at all, if he ends up making a modified V6 tb that can outflow the expensive performance tb's...and for MUCH cheaper. Then he better send one my way when he's got it perfected...lmao.

I see we have a very intelligent individual here. Let me as ask you a question.
Which will flow more when placed on a stock V6 manifold -
A. A modified V6 TB with a throttle bore that exactly matches the maniflod
B. A stock V8 TB
C. A monster 2x58 TB rated at 1150 CFM

Message: The F and B Throttle body for the v6 flows about 660 cfm, the v8 Throttle body flows about 635, if you cut the airhorns off and polish the top it will flow close to the F&B. I have a custom 49mm Tb that bored out of a v6 tb that will flow 711 cfm on a flow bench at standard testing preesure. I have the intake manifold off my truck and port matched the intake to the Tb. I found that anything over 48 mm and you really notice a loss of low end torque. Unless you v6 is heavily modified anything more than 48mm is overkill.
On the v8, I have taken the stock tb that has 50mm plate with a 48mm torque step, removed the torque step so the opening match the throttle plate size. I also removed the air horns rounded off the openings and thinned the throttle shaft. These modifications will allow my other fatory tb to flow approximately 750 cfm at test pressure. This improved performance considerably. I am also running a 3inch exhaust on this truck. This truck is also a 4x4. Check the picture in my sign on, the white truck is the v6. I am planning on trying a holley tb with 52 mm throttle plates, that will flow over 800 cfm on a thest bench. this may be over kill on the v8. The 318 at 6000 rpm needs about 700 cfm. The 2x58 on the v6 would cause severe loss of low end torque.

If you need a test v6 I am only like an hour away from you. We were e-mailing for awhile so e-mail me again if you need a truck.

Good Luck with your test, the way you have the Throttle body opened up it may work well on a v6. Did you see performance loss on your v8?

Why? How much will it flow when placed on stock V6 manifold?
We have some seriously flawed logic going on here. To illustrate my point, just imagine that the openings on the intake are only 1/2 inch in diameter. Now place a TB with 2 inch openings on top of that. Now ask yourself what controls the amount of air flow.
Believe me, you can put twin 2x58's on an adapter plate and it isn't going to make one bit of difference. It certainly would look impressive though.
Has anyone here ever heard of restrictor plates and what they do to race cars? Well this is the same situation that you have when you put a TB with throttle plates/bores larger than the intake. You can go ahead an put as large a carb/tb on your race car as you want and the restrictor plate will limit your flow.

Message: Wadak, the most I can say right now is that if there is a difference, I can't tell during everyday normal driving. My gut tells me that there has to be some difference. When I get a chance to get out on the open road I'll have to see what it will top out at.
Initially I did a couple of 0-60 runs and thought that it was 1-1.5 sec. slower. One other run showed pretty much the same that I get with a slightly modified V8 TB. Unless I get a dyno test, I'm not really prepared to say one way or an other. So far, I'll just say that I'm not disappointed.
