Ok,

I need help!
For some odd reason my truck
decided to throw up every bit
of coolant that i have in there.

I checked the raditor cap when
i got home and it wasn't even hot
and it looked kinda dirty/muddy in
there.

Got a new 180 t-stat and some coolant.

CAN YOU THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE! HELP

now you know thats..................

Have the radiator cap pressure tested.
The muddy/dirty part doesn't sound good. Maybe a blown head gasket?

Uhhhh...doesn't sound too good with the "muddy" stuff in the radiator. Did anything blow out of the overflow bottle?

nope nothing out of the overflow(yellow thing on the left). Looks to be leaking from around or above the crank?(round thing, lowest part where the belt goes.) I put in the 180 and still has a little leak, do you suspect that it could be no pressure in the raditor cap? It was not even hot when this all happend. Install of the 180 went good.

one question is the hose suposed to go all the way back down by the 2 bolts? or is it choked up some

ahhh dirty keyboard now

Egads!

Are you sure your leaking around the crank? (Yes, that is the crank) Maybe it's coming from higher up and thats just where you can see it?

Because if it's coming from -around- the crank, it should be oil from the main seal. Which is a problem, but if it's leaking -coolant- there, that means you've got problems!

Check your oil, is there coolant in it?

It really doesn't sound too good to me, from what your describing. I can only think of a few things. Blown head gasket is one, but that doesn't explain the leakage around the main bearing... another would be a cracked block, which I hope to -god- it isn't (and I'm sure you do too!).

Where are you at? Your near me (Orlando), aren't you?

Symptoms of a blown head gasket is engine coolant will leak into the cylinders, or into the oil channels or out of the engine. The radiator coolant is disappearing with no apparent leaks or coolant leaking from the sides of the engine ... or dipstick coming up looking like chocolate milkshake instead of oil. In any case don't drive it until you get it fixed.

Sounds like a water pump to me there is a weep hole on the bottom side. When it leaks it will drip on the crank. The muddiness is common on the cap usualy some left over casting sand or deposits left over time. Time for a new water pump.

yeah, i checked and it seems to be leaking from up higher then from the crank. It just runs down it. I hope i didn't crack the block oh god. Some one else i was talking too told me it was the head gasket (how much and how hard to replace?) And or the water pump?

Todd W, I am actually i live in new smyrna beach
south of daytona beach.

I checked the oil and it looked to be fine, but i will check it again, no water or coolant seeemed to be in there. Is it safe to drive to the shop? I need to get my oil changed today any ways

thanks for the help

Probally the water pump, water pump gasket, or head gasket. Although I'm leaning towards the pump/pump gasket since your not seeing water in the oil or oil in the water. :0)

Might be time to look into one of those high-performance pumps, eh?

Cool, Sic. Let me know how it turns out! Drop me a line the next time your out this way or heading to the track.

If you got brownish foam or oil slush in your raditor you got a cracked head or head gasket.

If it's a head gasket, you should find out through a compression check. Usually a gasket will blow only in one spot, so you'll end up with one cylinder having low compression.

I'm talking the performance water pump on the speedtweaks site. :0)

It -might- just be the water pump gasket... depends, feel around on the water pump for wet spots. If it's wet only where it meets the block, it's probally the gasket, if it's wet somewhere else, it's either coming out the weep hole or a cracked casing.

How bad is it leaking? 15 miles shouldn't hurt unless you're loosing a lot of coolant. Did you check around the t'stat housing and coolant tempo sensor (the sensor is right next to the t'stat housing). They're known for leaking every now and then. When they do leak, the coolant runs down the front of the block by the head/block seam and then down next to the timing cover...makes is look like a leaking water pump as well. (Don't rule out the water pump though.)

the thing is,i put the new t-stat and gasket in

the mornin bernd. There is nothing in my oil so it
cant be the head gasket can it?

A blown head gasket doesn't always result in oil contamination. Most likely it is the water pump. Not knowing what the problem is... IMO 15 miles is too far to drive without risking possible major damage. Can you take it to a local shop for diagnoses?

When i got there, there was still coolant
leaking out which i think is a good thing.

well, i can let you in on some things... the gaskets that went bad are probably easier to get to than that stupid bypass hose. i blew my bypass hose recently, and its a mission to get to. the damned hose is what's letting the fluid out (that's what happened to mine) and is behind the waterpump. you have to remove every attachment (alternator, compressor, and waterpump) and pray they don't f*ck up your alternator (like what happened to mine). at a dealership, the cost to replace it was about $265, but i got it done for $16 because my personal mechanic mis-diagnosed it ($7 for the hose and $9 for the coolant). if you can find a mechanic to do it for you go there. any dealership will bend you over and stick it to you up the poop shoot.

hope this helps you some.
