Subject: belly pan ? IP: Logged
Message: I have read here that the belly pan gaskets are known to leak, I look down the thottle body on my 95 and I see an oily coating,is this normal or is the gasket bad? I am a fair mechanic,is the gasket hard to replace? I also have a small rear main leak, maybe I should pull the motor and replace all the seals and gaskets. its got 115,000 on it, any suggestions?

Message: The belly pan gasket is easy to replace.I just did mine.Make sure you run the mopar combustion
chamber cleaner afterwards to remove the carbon
in the cyl. From burning all the oil.Even seafoam
works for that. The rear main I havnt done.

Message: If I recall, to check to for a leaking belly pan gasket, remove the PCV valve form the valve cover and with the engine running put your finger over the hole. Now air should be pushing out of the hole. If you have a vacume pull on your finger then the gasket is leaking and is pulling air from the bottom of the intake manifold and the gasket needs replacing. Give it a try.

Message: The (check for vacuum)test didnt work for me,
but my pan was positivly leaking, and for a
long time.If you are seeing a lot of oil in the
bottom of the manifold(not puddles)then its
leaking.
