Message: All of this time wasted in checking you could have just replaced the whole thing with a salvage yard compressor and been done. Free for the evac, $10 for the A/C recharge. Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I like taking the easy road :)

Message: You've got a good point but I don't want to start replacing parts to "see" if it works if I can diagnose it down to the actual part that needs replacing. Besides, it's Feb. and I live in New England.....I won't need the AC until late May or June. To me, part of the joy of fixing something is learning along the way. I've learned how to determine if a relay is good or bad and where to locate some of these parts....so all in all, I'm having fun too! When I get disgusted with it I'll drop it off at the garage and let them deal with it.

Message: Good points there. I usually don't give up that easy, after a couple of days it becomes personal. I got such a good deal on the part.

Message: Although this thread is 10 years old, I have the same problem. AC works great at first, then turns hot. I cannot get the clutch to engage. I have jumped the relay, nothing. When I jump the low pressure and high pressure switches I can visually see the clutch compress but it does not spin. I only have a low pressure gauge. When I started and it was cooling pressure was good. When it stopped cooling low pressure is 100 psi.
Any ideas?
TIA!
