Subject: sensor/guage?

hi,
i have been noticing for a little while now that every once in a while my tach just jumps, the motor doesnt change, the tach reading does...do you think this is due to a bad crank sensor? I plan to do the sensor mod with a new sensor anyway, but could it just be the guage?

How much does the tach jump? I have a 93 also and my tach sometimes 'settles' in a lower position(about 300rpm) than what it is really at. I notice this at idle and can usually rev it a few times to get it to catch back in the proper reading. It is the guage for sure on mine. Does yours jump when riding down the road?

i would say it probably can jump between 100-300 rpm

Well, I'm not a mechanic, but I seriously doubt that you have a problem with the crank sensor. If you did, I'd imagine that your truck would have some serious issues with the way it runs. I have noticed a trend on here with other guys trucks and the tach.s not always being 100% reliable(this goes for all the gauges).
Really sounds like your truck has a 'loose' tach like mine.
All this being said, I did have a similar problem in my 96 accord where the tach would 'dance' around at cruising speeds and jump up alot without any change in engine performance or any aparent rpm change. I thought it was the gauge but as it turns out, it was the coil which was replaced by honda free of charge. Go figure.
