Message: It is recommended to replace the clockspring (inside the steering wheel behind airbag). It allows the airbag to turn without twisting the wires. There may also be codes in the computer that need to be cleared.

Message: Your sensors should be fine. Just the bag modules themselves should need replacing and maybe the clockspring. Id wait to see if it through a code before id replace it though there usually pricey but im not sure for dodge.
O and airbags cost a small fortune and can only be shipped ground.

what is this crap and where do you find it? the clockspring does not get damaged UNLESS the stearing column itself is bent to sheet. since the airbag is in the middle of the stearing wheel it does not turn but it does rotate with the wheel. HOWEVER just because the bag goes off in an accident does not indicate the need for a replacementof the clockspring. there is no "code" if the airbag goes off.
you are right about one thing though, you are not sure about anything Dodge when it comes to replacing or repairing. I have seen your posts and read them for comic relief.

Message: what if you don't change the sensors and they are bad? when you get everything back together and connect your battery and your airbags go off! you would get to do it all over again!

Message: i dont know how true this is but a guy at a body shop told me that ya had to replace the control module under the dash after an accident... that it's a "one time use" kind of thing.
It's also what houses the sensor.
if it were me, i'd replace it all to make sure they deploy again if the need be.

Message: okay from a guy thats been in the dodge industry for over 10 years and am currrently under way with a rebuild on a dakota, here are some quick facts that you kids need to know.
Any time the air bags deploy in a wreck you have to replace the following the air bags, the air bag module, and most likley the impact sensor.
The Air bag module for the 1999 dodge dakota is directly underneath the radio unit on the floor. You will have to move the dash to get to it properly. While your back there if you need to repalce the passenger side airbag go ahead and do that. Its a mess back there and cramped condtions dont make it any easier. The driver side air bag is the most simpliest. Two screws from the back and of the steering wheel and the air bag lifts right out. Be careful though because two cables are attached to it, the horn wire and the air bag control module wire. I made the mistake of ripping mine out in angry and had to go find a whole new wire to re run and replace. Finaly the impact sensor is also key. Its located in the front of the vehicle near the bumper. Any type of front end collison causes this switch to be pushed back, causing a circuit to complete thus blowing the air bags. Hope ive steered some of you all straight. Keep in mind this is off 1999 dodge dakota reg cab 4x2 and should be the same for all models between 1997 and 2004. Good luck

Message: Here's a question for you guys, I'm
rebuilding a 97 Dakota. Using a 99 Dakota
parts truck. Neither of them habe been
wrecked. I'm using the complete wiring
harness from headlights to taillights and
writhing in between out of the 99. I'm
also using the abs controller out of the
99.
