i use autolite 3923's copper cores. about to try the platinums to see if theres a difference. gives mine a better idle, other than that you won't be able to tell a difference performance wise. might get a little better mileage though. that's my experience.

I tried platinums...Couldn't tell any difference at all. I would stick with the $0.99 champions like come on it from the factory...6 bucks vs. 60 bucks. However, my dakota is completely stock, maybe if you had more HP than me better spark might make a difference?

the distributor cap is easy to take off, just two phillips head screws. I took off the plastic intake piece for easier access. Then I put a towel across the crossmember and kneeled on it so I could get closer to the cap. My rotor button was pretty stuck on there but I wiggled it a little and it finally popped off.

fmxguy...I hope you aren't saying the Autolite plugs are $60. They can be found at Walmart for bout the same price as the stock plugs. I think they were around $3 for 2 plugs...maybe less than that even.

That was for the AP3923's by the way...

The advantage of the platinums is that they last longer and you can also gap them higher if you have some mod.s to the engine. Higher gap=bigger flame front Mine are gapped .010 over what the truck calls for but I can't recall exactly what the gap is. Truck fires like a dream

stock gap is like .35 . i'm thinking about upgrading my wires and cap, but i don't know yet. my only mods are the 3923 plugs, flowmaster 40, intake, relocated IAT, and adjusted throttle cable. mine are gapped at .45 but it's running a little rough for me, so i'm gonna gap at .35 and see what it does, then get the platinums. BTW, anyone know if the splitfire plugs are any good?
they look good but i don't want to waste $6 on em if they aren't any better than autolites.

Regular 3923's should be gapped at .035...AP3923's should be between .040 and .045 (start at .040 and adjust as necessary). And APP3923's shouldn't be used since usually our trucks run like sh!t with em.

champion plugs are utter garbage. Were constantly pulling em out of kias at work with 10k on them because there missing nasty style. Champion out of the factory but the "OEM parts plugs" distrubuted to lots are actually NGKs go figure.

Everyone has a different opinion on which spark plug works the best. Some had good results with one while someone else had a horrible experience with the same plug.

---If its your first time changing plugs---
1. Pick a brand
2. Get the right gap
3. install
4. decide if you like them or not
5. then keep them or try a different brand

simple as that...

whats to argue? say use brand "A" cause "ITS F*CKING AMAZING" so someone comes back complaining that brand "A" sucks and that brand "b" is 100% better. everyone comes on here thinking they know everyone, when actually only a small handful do. every engine works different and you need to try and see what works for your engine...not what worked for some guy across the nation.

so yeah, it is that simple
