Subject: Anyone for removing carbon?

Message:
Has anyone had any luck with removing carbon
from the combustion chamber without removing
the heads?A fogging chemical maybe?I think
the compresion is too high in my 98 3.9l .
Mostly 180 psi,with one at 210.Thats with
around 120,000 highway miles.I have heard
chrysler has a combustion chamber conditioner.
Has anyone tried this?Thanks for any replies...

seafoam. drop that in your throttle body or suck it through the vac lines in the brake booster. you will smoke out your whole city but be carbon free

An old mechanic's trick is to rev your engine up and slowly dribble water into your carb or TB. Stop pouring when the engine begins to stumble and let it smooth back out, then dribble some more. If you've got very much carbon you'll leave a black sooty mess whereever your tailpipe aims so inside your garage or carport is not the best place to do this. Keep doing it until all you get is white steam out of the exhaust. Needless to say, you should only do this on an engine that is fully warmed up so that the water flashes to steam when it hits the cylinders. I've done it on many different vehicles that were beginning to ping and afterwards no more pinging.

I know the water trick works,but it loosens
large pieces of carbon that could ultamatly
clog the cat/convertor.Researching the mopar
combustion cleaner,I have noticed great feedback.
A TSB for 96-98 jeep 4.0L list curing engine
misfire conditions.I have noticed a lot of
complaints on this subject,and wonder if this
is the 3.9L cure as well.It sounds as though
it reduces the carbon into fluids that should
pass the cat/conv.I would love to find someone
who has put this to the test.wouldnt you?

I've used the SeaFoam, seems to do good. I used a spare vacuum line and plugged it into the extra intake manifold port. It will smoke up the neighborhood, but clears up soon. Good luck.

i have used seafoam many times, its the only stuff i will buy, it works like no other carb/intake cleaner i have ever used. i used it on a fourwheeler that wouldnt even start and within 15 min it idled like new. used it on an oldsmobile..never needed to on the dakota yet though...maybe i should. oh and yes it will smoke like crazy..

Can you just pour seafoam directly into the TB bores or do you have to feed it through a vacuum line? Will it cause the engine to throw a trouble code?(I don't want to have to reset the PCM)
I want to give this stuff a try.

you can pour it down the tb in small amounts, you dont want to pour alot because it will flood it...but yes you can pour it down the tb in small amounts and it will do the same thing as feeding it through the vacuum line, i would actually probably say its better to do it that way, you dont need flammable fluids in your evaporation system.

How Many Mechanics Use SEA FOAM
In Tune-Up of 4 Cycle Gasoline Carbureted or Fuel Injected Engines
Autos, Trucks, and Tractors

1. With engine warm, slowly pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint through carburetor or throttle body throat. (If vehicle is port injected slowly pour SEA FOAM through direct manifold vacuum line that will feed all cylinders, possible sources are P.C.V. valve or brake booster line.) This will pull SEA FOAM down on top of the pistons and to the back of the intake valves to dissolve carbon. Turn ignition off. Restart engine after 5 minutes. If severe carbon build up is apparent, use more Sea Foam as previously directed. Make sure exhaust is well ventilated when using Sea Foam in these various ways as fumes will be extreme for a short time.
2. Pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint into oil crank case to clean rings, lifters, dirty parts and remove moisture.
3. Pour 1/3 to 1 full pint into fuel tank to clean injectors, carburetor jets, fuel lines and remove moisture.
4. Immediate Results: Smoother idle, increased R.P.M.'s better throttle response and improved performance. See label on can for detailed results for use in each area.

FUEL TANK, CARBURETOR, INJECTION and OIL CRANKCASE.
For Peak Performance, Use SEA FOAM Every 2,000 to 5,000 Miles

* A 100% pure petroleum product for use in all gasoline and diesel type engines, both 2 and 4 cycle. OXYGEN SENSOR SAFE.
* Cleans dirty engine parts internally by removing harmful gums, varnish and carbon. WORKS AND PERFORMS INSTANTLY.
* Removes moisture from oil crankcases and fuel tanks.
* Stabilizes and conditions fuels. Use for engine storage.

One pint treats 10 quarts of oil (avg. 1 1/2 ounce per quart).

When Added to Fuel Tank

* Cleans fuel injectors and carburetor jets
* Cleans carbon as you drive
* Lubricates upper cylinders
* De-ices and removes moisture
* Diesel full conditioner and anti gel
* Stabilizes fuel

One pint treats 8-25 gallons of fuel (average 1 ounce per gallon).

In Injector Cleaning Machines

Add a 50/50 blend of fuel and SEA FOAM into injector cleaning machine. Run directly through the fuel rails to clean injectors fast. Add SEA FOAM to your fuel tank to clean injectors as you drive.

Well, I went ahead and used the seafoam today. Poured it into the TB slowly. Had to rev the motor a little while pouring or else it would stall. I used half the can in the TB and poured the rest in the gas tank. You guys are right, I was smokin' outta the tailpipe like a BBQ pit. It smoked for a good while too and didn't let up till after I took a drive around town. Tell ya what, this stuff works GREAT. I can tell a difference without a doubt on how my truck accelerates and I really wasn't having a problem beforehand. Its much smoother now and more responsive. I can even hit a higher RPM when I gun it(its an auto tranny) My truck does have 170k on it so I'm sure there was plenty of carbon. Good stuff and I'd definitely recommend it. Don't know about pouring it into the crankcase to mix with the oil though but I guess it would be ok as long as you follow the directions.

My first application of the mopar combustion
cleaner went well also.The idle has picked up
some,and is much smoother.I am doing a second
application,and letting it soak through the night.
If any body is wondering the mopar cleaner from
the dealer is very exspensive at $7.00 a can.
So maybe the seafoam is better on the wallet.
