Subject: Short Tonneau Cover IP: Logged
Message: Before putting a cap on my truck, I kept a toolbox on the bed and had shortened my tonneau cover to cover the rest. It looked fine but leaked between the toolbox and the front edge of the tonneau. I'm considering taking my cap off since I prefer the look but want to know if they make a tonneau that'll fit with a tool box and won't leak. I have a '98, ext cab with the 6.5' bed. thanks

Message: You will probably have to modify what you have or any new one you may get. I would consider installing a ledge onto your toolbox at the same level as the bedrails. Your front tonneau cover rail would then mount to this instead of the front rail of the bed. Seal it with foam tape or caulk. Because of the shorter length due to the toolbox, the rest of the tonneau will have to be cut down to fit. I made a tonneau cover from scratch for my previous truck using tonneau fabric stretched over a tubular steel (elec conduit) frame. Looked good and worked good for several years.
