I have a 95 4x4,I am having problems with the 4x4 shifting in and out. To engage it you have to stop,go to neutral,go to 4low back to 4high. To disengage it you have stop, put it in two-wheel,backup afew feet, then your good to go. If you don't disengage it this way,it will howl and pull hard to one side.

you may actually have a problem within your transfer case. i had a friend with a 91 jeep wrangler had similar problems til finally it wouldnt engage at all. inside there is a shift fork with two pads on it that keep it from wearing alot, his pads fell off and the fork was screwed..you may be experiencing similar problems. he got a t-case from a junkyard for about 50 bucks and just swapped.

How are your tires? Are they different brands or have different amount of miles on them. A frend had 2 different types of tires on his truck and it did the same thing.

The tires are brand new this season. There all the same size 235/15's. They are different brand's. I don't see were this, would make any difference,in how it shifts in and out of 4x4.
