Message: The check engine lit up on my dash a few days ago. I immediatley checked all the obvious stuff and found I needed to add about 1 or 2 quarts of fluid to the radiator. I had checked it a couple months ago, and it was OK then. I purchased the On Board Diagnostic (OBDII) for about $100. The reading came back "Evaporateve Emission Control System Leak Detected." The truck seemed to be running normally so I waited to get a friend's Haynes Repair Manual, which was only marginally useful. The day I went to get the manual, the check engine light went off and has not lit up since. I have a 2000 Dakota with a V6 magnum; here are my questions:
Has anybody had the same symptoms on their truck?
What repair manuals are out there and does anybody have any strong recommendations or complaints?
What do other people think of the OBDII code readers and fixing problems using them as a diagnostic tool? Any pointers?
Any help appreciated. - - Justin
