 Subject: gas gauge probs after pump change

ok guys need your help
installed a new fuel pump a few weeks ago
now the damn gauge dont work right,
i figured maybe the float was getting hung up on the side of the tank so removed it and turned it
and after 4 times still no go.
also the pump assembly has slides
i guess for the pump to go up and down?
or am i supposed to tighten the screws to keep it from moving?
trucks a 94 Dak 3.9

when you install the pump leave the screws so that it can slide down to the bottom of the tank. the float should be slightly turned not straight to the front or back of the tank. i have mine striaght and everytime i stop or accelerate it moves a quarter tank. but i am not dropping the tank a third time.
