What would straight pipes sound like on a 2002 Dakota SXT? It has the 3.9 v6. Thanks.

Not sure if anything bad would happen, it prolly wouldn't sound real great...but who knows? And yes, it'll mess with your o2 sensor...you'd need to get an 02 sim for it.

I would assume it would sound the same as open headers. In high school, our school did not like loud exhaust so we all used to come to school with open headers the first friday of every month. Just about every car sounded bad, but they were loud. Try disconecting your exhaust from the header/manifold back. Stight pipes should sound similar to that. You will get a check engine light because the O2 sensor will not get a reading.

i have an 03 SXT with the 3.9 and i straight piped mine from the cat and it sounded badass at idle, if ya didnt know anything about trucks, youd think it have a V8. when i went to take off my truck sounded like a pissed off bumble bee in a can. i hated it, it sounded terrible. if i was a V8 yeah i think it would sound awesome. unless you like th sound of a pissed off bumble bee in a can. i went with a flowmaster 40 or 50 series i cant exactly remember. up to you man, i think youll be happy with the flowmaster.

alright i am a mechanic who happens to own one of these trucks and have done all you have talked about even down to the O2 simulator first of all straight pipe is ok but not enough back pressure for the motor you will lose power second of all as long as the cat is on the O2 sensor will be fine mine is hollow and never even tripped the engine light and scanner readings are ok i wentr with the flowmaster 40 series original flows 2.5 in dual 2.5 out and custom bent the pipe myself the exhaust is nice and deep outside the truck and pretty quit inside till you roll the windows down but in my opinion sounds great but hey try to get advice from somone like myself who is certified not just anyone throwing there 2 sense in
