Subject: backfire IP: Logged
Message: i have an 87 Dakota with the 3.9 V6, and it now starts to backfire when you try to accelerate, will not go faster than 35 mph, it pops, spits and sputters when you rev up the motor. Ive checked the timing, plugs, it ran fine for about two weeks after I set the timing and rebuilt the carb then all of a sudden, it started with the backfiring, is htere something I may be overlooking???

Message: check the timing again. being an 87 that should probably be manually adjusted (i dont remember). but i would venture to say that your timing is off. i would also pop off the cap and rotor to see that everything is up to par underneath

Message: Timing chain jumped perhaps. I have no idea how those are timed but that's what it sounds like.
