I had an 89 dakota once and couldnt get heat from it. Had too much antifreeze in it. drained some out and replaced with water.worked well after that. If engine is reading right temp, could be a stuck blend door in heater also. Good Luck!

I'm in the same boat as you. Maybe we can figure this out together....I back flushed my heater core last night, reconnected the lines and still no heat. However, I had replaced my water pump about a year ago and haven't had heat since (I didn't know because it was summer)....

Anyway, I removed the hose from the water pump witht the engine running, very little fluid came out of the pump housing. (radiator and fill tank were full before starting) Now I'm suspicious that the pump is faulty or at least the fins may be spinning the wrong way. Have you replace your water pump prior to the problem?

Try replacing the Rad Cap with a NEW O.E one! Also, is the thermostat O.E or aftermarket? How man miles anyway?

I have had the same problem for 2 years now. I have tried almost everything. I did find out though that the damper door that opens and closes is controlled by a cable and there is an adjustment for the cable at the damper door side which is behind the glove box. According to the Dodge Tech I talked to recently, that door may not be shutting all the way when you move the control over to heat and it is letting in cold air from outside. I plan on following the cable from the control knob to the damper door.

If your at the end of your rope, try switching the hoses around that are going into the heater core(bottom to top and top to bottom). I had the same problem your having, turns out when I had the water pump and hoses replaced the mechanic put the hoses on backwards. Hot coolent should go into the bottom of the core and out of the top. This is done so the hot coolent sits in the heater core longer and to produce heat. If hoses are on backwards the hot coolent just runs through the core and does not heat it up. Hope this helps.

In my case, I had replaced the water pump, and radiator cap, the thermostat was replaced twice....just to be sure. So, I never switched the hoses to the heater core. My suspision is the the water pump, I'm not sure its even working correctly because the hoses don't get warm and I don't get a flow from the water pump when I pull the hose off of it while it's running and at full temp. (I know that was dangerous but the hose was pretty limp and wasn't hot either).....I'm going to follow the cable to the flap too....maybe that will be it!

ABL, does your radiator get hot? does your truck run at normal operating temp? Pull your heater hose off at the pump and make sure the outlet pathway is clear. Some pumps come with a plastic plug on the heater hose outlet for shipping. Maybe that is still in there.

Hey Spt, thanks, I will make sure my heater hoses are connected properly. I currently in the process of putting my heads back on as I blew a valve spring off and bent a valve. Had to get a valve job done.

I'll let you know if that resolves the heating issue.

I just put a new water pump on and now my truck will not run over 130 deg. The heater blows a little heat but not like it used to. I put a new thermostat in when I put the pump on but maybe it it faulty.
Thanks

About 2 years ago while on the road, my water pump quit. Not having access to my tools, I paid a local garage to put a new one on for me. The next day (while further down the road), it quit again. Turns out they used a cheap aftermarket pump and it too had broken it's impellers. I put an OEM (more expensive) and it's worked fine since.

Well I got my engine back together and it runs fine. Also, I checked my heater hoses and found that I in fact had reversed them 2 years ago when I replaced the water pump. I reversed them back and I HAVE HEAT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
