Where's your overflow bottle? Put it back on, fill up the radiator when cold, warm up the truck. If you find your losing coolant (air pocket in the radiator) get a new cap, check hose clamps and hoses including heater lines. If you're still getting radiator air pockets, get a new radiator. Why do you suspect head gasket? How is the mileage, is it losing oil too, is it running kinda powerless? Is there oil in the coolant. Low compression? Is there coolant in the oil? If no other symptoms like this just work it out of the cooling system.
