Every time I put my 01 Dak in reverse it makes a low humming noise until I switch back to a different gear. Is this low fluid or something more severe?

In the pre-RFE transmission Dakotas, it was not uncommon to hear a whine, buzz or humm from the auto transmission when cold started and put in reverse. There is a fix for it, but is generally not a detrimental condition.
