Howdy, just bought an '89 shortbed 4WD. Can anyone tell me
the auto tranny model #, maybe the axle gear ratio, is it a
nvg231D transfer case, etc? Whatever info you have is most
appreciated. I plan to buy a book on it as soon as can.
Is there a code on the truck which will tell me the axle ratio, posi
rear or no, etc?

chances are the tags are rotted off or missing on the drive line components. so pull up the rubber mat on the floor behind the passenger side and near the door somewear in that area will be the build tag it has all the info on it including you're paint code.
