I am in the market for a used truck and was wondering if a V6 Dakota is suitable for towing a 20 foot bass boat.

While a V8 will clearly do a better job, the V6 will also pull it fine.

if you can find a dealership with any 04 models left you can buy it really really cheap and the new 3.7 L engine is worlds better than the old 3.9. eitherway i feel that my 6 can tow well, although i cant say ive truly had any real wieght behind it yet.

I've towed 6x12 uhaul trailers before that weighed in the range of 4000lbs at speeds of 55-60 mph with no problem. be aware of hard breaking and the potential for some sucky gas milage. I get 10-12 mpg in my 95 CC 4x4 3.9 auto w/ aftermaket class III Hitch with that much weight. Make sure the brakes on your trailer are working optimally.

i've pulled trailers with quads, boats, bikes..you name it and i have pulled it, it does quite well pulling and i manage to get about 16 mpg doing it, but beware that you will be running around 60mph w/o overdrive and turning about 2500 rpm.

I have a 2004 Dak 3.7 5 speed. It pulls very well. I flat towed a 01 Chev 2500 at 65 to 70 miles an hour @ about 15 miles per gallon. In the real nasty up and down spots I got down to 60.
