hey guys,
i've been wondering if anybody has found a cheaper alternative to the k&n fipk for a 93 or there about year dakota? i would like the extra performance that i would get with it but don't want to spend the $150 for it.

I've seen alot of people on here and other websites that built one out of some pvc pipe and the k&N cone using parts they got from home depot / lowes / other home improvement stores.

in my '95, there is a little restrictor plate that i removed from between the radiator and the front of the truck. it forced the air to flow around it to get into the intake system vs entering directly into the intake through the grill.

I'm contemplating building one from scratch myself.

im trying to keep from relocating the air intake from the top of the engine. i like that set up because, often times i do some water crossings or hit the occasional mud puddle and do get water in that region of the fender. i would like something maybe an open element for the top of the throttle body like the fipk for the 93. but i dont want to spend that much.

I've done some searching before for the fipks for my 95 - same model as yours - and cheapest i've found is around $125 + shipping. I think you can do it for around $100. Pick up a K&N filter for around $50 and then pick up a housing for around the same price. I'm still checking this one out though, trying to find the best price, etc. I was thinking either this or putting in cone filter on mine, but then again, i don't do water crossing unless it's a road with standing water.

one thing you could do is remove the filterbox and just attach a cone filter to the stock inlet in place of the filterbox
