Subject: engine flush IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 3.9l v6. I also just started doing my own maitanance on my truck. i was planning on draining and flushing my coollant. I got the haynes manual and was planning on following there directions. but i wondered if there were any potential problems or tips any one might have for me.

Message: if you drain using the drain plug, you'll get coolant all over. Manual says you can put a hose over the hole, that's kind of hard to do in my opinion - you may have better luck with that. I unscrew the cap part way, let it drain slowly or use a "filter" mechanism with a hose to catch it as it shoots out and direct it to the drain pan. You can cut the bottom off an old gallon jug of milk or cut the bottom off an antifreeze container and use that then just get a hose big enough to cover the mouth and driect it to the drain pain. Make sure you get the big coolant drain pan.
I also lay down an absurd about of newspaper to catch any spills - all under the front of the truck not just near the radiator drain plug.
antifreeze is toxic, keep pets away, they tend to be attracted to the sweetness of it and will lick it up in an instance. Be sure to clean up all spills.
