I have a 2000 Dakotas 4X2 with a 3.9L. The vehicle turns over (plenty of battery power) but doesn’t start. I can hear the fuel pump activating when turning the key to the on position. When trying to start the vehicle it just cranks over and never starts. Any suggestions?

what codes are you getting? to get the codes:
turn the key on, off, on off, on( doon't turn to start) the odometer will display the codes. ie, P0321, etc. when it's done it will display Pdone. post all the codes you get on here and maybe we can narrow the problem down. it sounds like the crank sensor is bad.

My check engine light is on but everything runs perfect so i haven't really done anything about it...I got a code from the odometer and its PO455..is there somewhere that i can see what that code is?

The service engine soon light was never on before this problem and still hasn't come on. I hooked up an EDT (engineering diagnostic tool) from DCX to it and check for faults/codes and none came up. Open for more suggestions, I think tonight I'm going to check the plugs for spark.

that would be a good place to start. when was the last tune up? if you got spark next check to see if the injectors are firing.

Find the PCM on the passenger side inner fender under the hood. Make sure al the plugs are seated tightly. Undo each latch on the plug, remove the plug and reseat them until you hear a solid click.
Somebody could have been fcuking around under your hood?

I had similar thing happen a few months ago. I have a 2000 4x2 3.9. Turns out it was a ignition relay switch under the hood in the relay fuse box. It never through a code or anything. $175 for the dealer to trace it back to a $12 part!

take the truck to a dealer ship and get it checked out instead of wasting your damn time on codes or try disconnectin the battery for 24 hrs and then try to start it if that does not work hold the gas peatel to the floor and try to start it then get back with me
