Message: I know the first thing a lot of y'all will say is, "do the search and quit wasting everyone's time", but this misfire has me stumped. It's an intermitted, spark misfire. This thing like some kind of saga that's supposed to teach me every freak'n thing there is to know about dakotas. This is what's been done:
Several spark plug, wire, rotor, cap, coil replacments
IAC replacment
MAP replacment
Water temp. sen. rplc.
Air temp cheked and cleaned
throttle contol sen. rplc.
belly pan gasket rplc.
speed sen. rplc.
cam sen rplc.
crank sen rplc.
vac. hoses good
cat. replaced
both o2's replaced
DAMN COMPUTER RPLC. (OUCH!)
all grounds are good
fuel pressure good to the inj.
compression good
The only codes I get are "cyl no.6 misfire" on an OBDII scanner, and power disconnected to PCM on the odometer. I've had this problem close to six months now. It's had all regularly schd oil and tranny servicing. The only plug that looks black and wet is 6. When I unplug the wire to the inj on 6 there is no change in the engine's behavior. There are definite changes when I unplug the others, but why would my plugs be wet??? Furthermore, my evap. purge solenoid is clickin and my manual says it should normally be closed. When I mess with it like unplug or stop up a line, it's worse. I've run 2 diff types of inj cleanr thru'em 2
I know this sh@t is long, but I've run out of options, 'cause bring'in it to a mech. is not an option.
Mine is '97 dak slt

Message: Do a compression test. Wet plug might be unburned fuel caused by a cylinder leak.
I'm sure Larry or others will think of something else. Obviously, if you unplug injector #6 and power doesn't change, you're not getting an effective power stroke for one reason or another.

Cut and paste this link into your browser, it might give you some help. It sounds like you covered most of the bases, sounds like a wiring issue to me.

Message: Bad injecter leaking or shorted wire to injecter
Do a compression test 120 to 130 PSI
If comp good replace injecter
I had 1 truck were the #2 injecter would not fire
if you pluged it into another injecter wire it
clicked ended up being the computer which is rare
feel the #6 injecter against the others with your
finger or a poor mans stetiscope to see if it is
clicking like the others may be stuck open
poor mans stetiscope a long screw driver or cut
off broom handle to the injecter and your ear
will carrie sound very well
The #6 misfire code tells me it is more than likly
a bad injecter

Message: I did a compression test a while back and that's all good. (thank god!) I've also done the thing with the screwdriver and it seems like #6's click is a little weaker.
Thanks 4 y'all's help. I have a follow-up question though. I'm going to be putting a v-8 throttle body on and I will be changing the injectors with the ones from fiveo. How big can I go w/o messing up the comp. 19#, 21.5#, or 24#

Message: Larrry I have 1 more question.
You'll see in this post, wadak recommended a post in which ur telling this guy about a tech service bulletin. You describe a wire(red), that's connected to three other wires about a foot back. Well r these wires actually on the firewall, where the harness starts to split, or on the fender after the relay box? I'm having trouble finding it.
