First time poster and I'm having a problem with my 99 dodge dakota. I was gone for about 12 days which meant it sat in the garage for that time and ever since that day it will not idle without me putting my foot on the gas. I thought maybe the lines needed to be run for a little bit so I held my foot on the gas around 1500 rpms to get it going. I then lifted my foot and it immediately died. I tried this 3 times and after the 3rd time it wouldn't start. I gave up and took the wife's car to work and when I came back that night I attempted to start the truck again and the same thing happened. It started I ran it for about 10 mins and it immediately dies.

Other symptoms are Radio stations constantly are losing configuration. The amp gauge shows the battery has a full charge.

Any ideas what could be wrong? I thought maybe the battery or the alternator but it seems like it could be some sort of fuel injection problem since both the battery and alternator are keeping things charged.

The battery is the original battery. I was planning on taking it in this weekend to wal-mart to see if that was the problem.

"The amp gauge shows the battery has a full charge." I believe these are all VOLTMETERS, not AMMETERS, therefore, they show either the battery voltage or the regulator output voltage, whichever is higher. It does NOT show the health of the battery. Have a load test performed after a full charge.

find a cheap V8 TB, same year as your truck. you'll see a difference. unless you want to spend more, get an F & B. the V8 works good for me and my '00.

I was gonna suggest it was IAC related...guess I was wrong. lol

Yeah...get a V8 tb from what is it? 96+ 5.2L or 5.9L (both are the same size)... just to be safe, go with 97+. I can't remember if the 96 tb will work or not...

I think Larry usually puts it like this...

Good - v8 tb
Better - Fastman tb
Best - F&B tb

Thing is...you will pay a lot more for the Fastman and F&B.
