Subject: Rear end fluid change IP: Logged
Message: I have a 98 dakota 2wd was wanting to change the fluid in my rear end and wanted to know how to do it. THe only thing I could find was a rubber plug on the back of the diff. Do I just pull that plug out, or do I need a special tool? Also I thought I read about sucking the fluid out if I didn't want to replace the seal, is that correct??
please help,
Malcolm
Also does anyone know the size allen wrench needed to take off the brake calipers on the front?

Message: That plug just pulls out. use something wide and not sharp. I'd only do it if the case is warm at the time so it doesn't get damaged. If the fluid is fairly clean you can just suck most of it out. It is not much more work to remove the bolts and just reseal it with very thin silicone. Use brake cleaner so you get good bonding.
