Subject: Hey Larry,, tranny question IP: Logged
Message: I have a '00 3.9L auto(what tranny is it anyway?) what would make it not want to shift from 2nd to 3rd only when it it cold? It'll shift at 3k rpm and hits 3rd hard. It's working good after warm-up.

Message: should be a 42RE elec gov presure controll
Sticky valve try some lubegard red it will help
sticky valves
00 was also 1 of the years they had probs with
the presure sensor and sol.
How many miles and when was it changed last
sometimes just a fluid and filter change will
cure what you are describing
Chrysler ATF+4, Amsoil syn or redline syn also
works very well in these transmissions
One of the valves in the body is hanging up when
cold try the lubegard and a change before anything
else is done

Message: Forgot to mention do not let anyone tell you there
aditives will work a lot of them have friction
modifiers in them and will glaze the bands and
clutchs and create slipage
No TransX please or anything of that type
LUBEGARD RED WORKS and is sold in a lot of auto stores

Message: they may have it not sure
Napa and others do carrie it
It was changed but did he use good fluid dextron
or cheap fluids will give you probs in these trans
Stated right by chrysler do not use
I have seen many customers that used the wrong
fluid and got eratic shifts and slipping and
just doing the change and the lubeguard solved
all the probs within 50 miles of driving
Just to be safe I would change the fluid and
filter and put 1 bottle of lubegard red in and
it will probably be just fine

Message: I'll try the fluid change and lubegard red. the previous owner probably went the cheap way. He used the wrong lube in the rear. I looked on www.lubegard.com site and didn't see which product you are talking about. thanks
