Message: having problems w/1991 3.9 tbi dakota ,the engine runs fine at idle, very responsive and healthy when you open it up while parked .problems when driving and under load (slight hill truck empty for instance).it falls on its face when you try to give it more fuel it even sounds like its popping back in the intake now you let off the throttle a little and it will run fine but will not gain any speed . if it were a very long steep hill i would imagine it would be down to a crawl.over 100k new fuel filter ,plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil.fuel psi @12 ANYONE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS OR SUGGESTIONS

Message: I don't really konw, but I tried a quick search for "engine bog". Looks like you covered a lot of the usual suspects already (plugs, fuel filter).
Just a guess... but could it be a plugged catalytic converter? Again, just a guess.
Hopefully someone else will chime in here!

Message: new plugs wires cap rotor fuel filter ... no codes ... no cat now !......while parked in shop when i bring engine to wide open throttle it dies out ,let off its fine ,so then i put a T inline w/ gauge to monitor psi (was 12 psi)and snapped the throttle to wide open and it was fine ,redline and bouncing off rev limiter i then went for road test (w/ and w/out gauge inline ,w/gauge it seemed a little better not perfect though)....was kind of questioning fuel pressure regulator .....how can i check

Message: Just a thought. I had an Audi GT with the same problem, ran fine at idle then died under load. Turned out to be a loose ground wire. Probly because the engine moves a little when under load. I found it by accident one night along the side of the road when it had gotten loose enough to cause me problems when it was idling.

Message: I had a similAR problem . . .Started off that the PU would idle fine but didn't while driving. (example. same as yours) The problem would progress almost daily till it was effecting the idle. To me it seemed like a clogged fuel system, so I poured bottle after bottle of oct. boost and fuel additive. That seemed to alleviate the problem temporarily. EVentually I had the fuel injector replaced. That fixed it; however, the first 3-5 sec. after start up it will cough and studder and then will reach idle. Strange? Hope this helps! Flow

Message: found out the problem was a bad fuel pump .i was told by a dodge tech to watch fuel pressure while driving so i ran a 3' piece of fuel line out rear corner of hood near hinge (careful not to pinch hose obviously )and went for a spin . the psi was fine when you were not on the throttle much but as soon as you put your foot in it the psi dropped to about 6 psi (should be around 12-15psi)and the truck ran like crap .$160.00 napa fuel pump later truck runs like it should .also it was about a 4hour job with the truck on jack stands and dealing w/new york rust . thanks for all the posts and i hpoe this helps someone else !
