I have a 97 v6 Dakota 5spd 2wd and am interested in getting as much power out of our 3.9 as I can, BUT WITHOUT increasing smog emissions.

I live in one of the two most anal states for smog stuff there is: California. So I have to have it pass smog every 2 years. I also am not the type of person who would be willing to keep the stock parts and swap them just before the test, to keep the max HP/Torque and still get my tags.

So, I was interested in any feedback from people with JBA or Gibson Headers, with larger throttle bodies, or any other performance mod other than cold air set-up, and whether it affected your smog emissions tests.

Also, why does everyone talk about JBA headers, but not Gibson? Is there a significant power increase from stock, and is one noticably more powerful than the other?

I too am in California (thus the co. name)--- and have a smoggable setup for your 3.9L that will pass no problem on the sniffer, and give you some good performance #s.
