i have a 89' dakota 4x4 and the vacuum line that comes off the side panel near firewall has no suction. is this normal? should be two with suction right? one off motor and this one? vacuum works fine to front axl until i shift into 4x4, then vacuum should shift to other hose to lock the axl, but nothing. i reversed the hoses in engine compartment, and opposite happpens.axl engages but wont disengage, thus forth im assuming there are no vaccum leaks, but something else.

It could also be a clogged vacuum line. On my 1989 Dak I needed to replace both the vac switch on the transfer case and run a new vacuum hose from the transfer case as the old one was clogged or pinched off somewhere. The vacuum switch should run about $17 at the dealer.

ive replaced the switch on the transfer case. but what about the hose coming from by the fire wall? should there be two vacuum sources? one off the motor and this one? or is there only one hose for vacuum?

Actually, if memory serves there are two vacuum line from the t-case to the "hub locking mechanism" on the front axle. Always, one of the two lines should have vacuum. One of the vacuum lines will lock in the front hubs when the lever is put in 4WD.
