Subject: 02 sensors???

Message:
I went to autozone and pepboys today to look for o2 sensors for my 2001 3.9 Dakota. They both don't stock or have the sensors available to purchase. Napa would have to get them through the dealership which would be 100 a sensor. Is there anywhere else that sells o2 sensors cheaper???

Also a friend of mine who works at a dealership gave me two brand new o2 sensors. One is for a 2001 neon and the other one is for a 98 caravan. They both have the same wire config.( grey, black, white, white) its just that the harness isnt the same as my truck. Is it possible to take the harness from the old 02 sensors already on my truck, cut, splice, and soilder the wires from the correct harness to the wires of the new o2 sensors?

How many miles on your truck? The O2 sensors might be within federal warranty period (free).

Probably no one else will agree, but I would use them. The sensor element doesn't change and neither do the exhaust gases. In another make engine (I won't mention) they have keying in the connector that changes from year to year. I've just cut the keying tabs and used them from older years that I had on the shelf. If they are free, what a great science experiment. The splices must be sealed to prevent a load on the sensor. I've found that hot melt glue on the splice and then heat shrink tubing over that makes excelent waterproof connections. Make leads longer and keep splice away from direct heat. Good luck.

Only problem is, the mechanical fit may be different for different manifolds. Others have found this about certain vehicles.
