My 2001 quad cab 3.9l 4x4 Dakota makes strange noises (metal stress noises) when I make sharp turns. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what do you think it is?

check your power steering (even if it's a little low it will make some crazy noises) i had a simular problem in my old grand prix

maybe balljoint's? that seems to be a problem with alot nowadays. doesn't hurt to check and might save a flying wheel or two.

It's like a non-mechanical groaning noise when you are turning very slow? If thats it I'm hearing the same thing on my 2000 4x4. I'm hoping it goes away when I get my balljoints replaced.

I heard that Dodge is recalling dakota and Durangos for ball joint replacements. they are making the warranty for those now up to 100,000 mi.
I have a similar problem but the recall is only for up to 2003 dakota's and I have a quad cab 2004 so I dont qualify. check with your dodge dealer

Does it happen while turning both ways;If while turning right could be muffler hanger broke.Muffler dosent drop but will rub driveshaft in the wrong way.

I have a 2002 Dakota SLT. Was making weird noises when I turned. Took it to the dealership and they replaced the ball joints no questions asked. I feel lucky after reading some of the post on here. But, I have gone there to the service dept. 3 times and had a good experience each time. Now I have to knock on wood and cross my fingers so I dont jinx myself for next time

it could be a cv-joint if it gets a tare in the boot it can make noises when you turn
