my 1999 dakota, V-6 2WD, is my third one. had a '87 and a '94 with a 318. never had a transmission problem with any of them. i keep them serviced properly and don't tow anything over 1500 lbs. anyone ever experience problem's with the late model automatic o/d's? i've heard some horror stories, but i'm really kinda wondering. also, i use mobil 1 oil in the crankcase and my dakota has 60,000 miles on it now. it has a slight rattle upon it's first morning start of the day. last's maybe 2 seconds or so. always figured it was the lifter's and didn't concern myself with it too much. as such as the magnum engine's use roller lifter's, this can't be possible. is this normal? is it something serious like a (gulp!) loose rod?? what do ya all think??

I dunno if this helps but i have been told in the past that the slight rattling i have throught the day at different times is caused by the timing belt/chain thing and that it needs a tensioner but i by no means claim to be an expert.
