Message: First thing to do is check all the elec
connections to the trans
Grounds under hood
Main to fire wall from motor back of motor
comp engine ground up by alt
and about 6 more small ones to fire wall and
right fender.
If the TCC is coming on it will stall when droped
into rev you may need to replace the TCC valve
sonnax makes an upgraded replacement
http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/Tranmission_Parts_s/58.htm
SONNAX® 22771A-01
Another thing that can cause that is either a
short to ground on the wires coming from trans
the 12 volt batt is always on and the sol is
activated by the comp grounding the circuit
or a stuck sol or dirt in the TCC valve behind
the sol or pluged vent for that sol
Check the elec connections first if thats not it
the valve body must be removed and checked out
Lubegard red will help sticky valves you can
also try some of that.

Message: Wish I had seen this when it was current, but maybe someone else will benefit...
I repaired a Dodge truck with EXACTLY the same symptoms that turned out to be chafed wires to the vehicle speed sensor!
OK, the engine rocks one way when put in reverse, and the other way in drive -- the wire harness to the VSS (at the tail of the tranny) was running over the bell housing and the main body of the case, rubbing each time it was shifted -- there is a 7 volt supply that feeds the VSS, the RPM sensor (engine), and the crankshaft pos. sensor (the last two tell the ECM when to fire the spark and inject the fuel) -- when shorted to ground the 7 volt supply shuts down and won't reset until the key is cycled -- the chafed (bare, therefore) wires ground out as the case twists killing & volts and engine loses fuel and fire and dies until key switched off and restarted.
Fix the VSS harness (and see if the engine mounts are too sloppy, while yer at it), and the problem vanishes!
HTH,
Cheers,
Dave
