Subject: help please !!! heater hose routing IP: Logged
Message: 1987 3.9L, i bypassed my heater core years ago. just changed out the heater core but can't remember how the hoses are routed.
is the htr.control valve in the hose that goes from water pump to htr.core?
which hose goes to the top of core and which to the bottom?
tried to look at the pics in repair book but can't make it out clear enough.
poor truck has 242,000 miles on it :(

Message: The bottom hose(bottom of core) is where the coolent goes in and the top is where the water goes out(back to the system). This is done so the hot coolent sits longer in the core and produces more heat. I am not sure on the htr.control valve, I would suggest putting on the input line, so when it is shut off the coolent will just bypass.

Message: SPT, thanks very much. i found a used car lot today with an '89 dakota and they let me look under the hood. the hose from the water pump goes to the bottom and the hose from the top of the core goes to the intake manifold and it is the one that has the control valve. appreciate your help !!! falconfan.
