i have a 98 3.9 and once in a while especially when in 4x4 between 2nd and 3rd, it will begin to buck and gives the feeling of a rev limiter. if i let off the gas or hammer it, it will go away. its only when i am trying to maintain a speed (usually between 30 to 40 kph) the truck has a full msd ignition, cap, rotor, autolites, v8 tb, and jba headers. this started after the truck sat for a month or so while i was doing a straight axle conversion. any suggestions?

First off pull your cap and rotor and make sure its not carbon tracked or burnt up. Next check your fuel sync. While you can do this with a multi-meter its easier to use a scan tool. The bucking sounds like your fuel sync is off. Did you mess with the distributor any? like trying advance timing or anything?

I had a bad Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) that acted like that, bucking until you let off the gas. It was worse than normally reported TPS problems (RPM surge). Might want to pull and clean both the TPS and Input Air Controller, and maybe clean the TB while you're at it.

Sometimes a bad O2 sensor will do this. Check fault codes.
