Message: My son is having a problem when going up steep hills , when he pushes down accelerator - truck starts to bog down and acts as though it is running out of gas - as soon as he is back on a flat surface - truck runs just fine - I'm no machanic so I thought we could ask the forum -

Message: Sounds like a classic case of clogged fuel filter.
Looks like the fuel filter is part of the fuel
pressure regulator, and they are located in the top
of the fuel tank ... under the bed. I don't know
if there is an access hatch in the bed, cuz I have
a bedliner in place (I have a '95 but they're the same in this regard).
Might be better to have the shop do it if you don't work on vehicles.

Message: if it is your fuel strainer it's in the tank and you'll need to have a
shop take a look at it since you aren't mechanically inclined, it's
a pain in the a s s job, could be the pump
how steep an incline we talking here ??? is he doing it when he's
low on gas ? could be starving the pump

Message: Brad : thanks alot for quick response - just forwarded note to my son - we won't have any problem
getting to fuel pump / regulator - I thought it may be some thing with the computer system and we definitly don't have the equipment to run diagnostics.
Thanks again,
Norm

Message: as for the first three answers all i can say is wrong wrong wrong, it is a bad throttle position sensor.
try putting the key in the ignition and then
turn it on
turn it off
turn it on
turn it off
turn it on
then wait a short while, the codes if any, will show up in the odometer window.
for confirmation go to your local autozone parts store, if one is nearby and have them run a scan tool on it, the scan tool service by them is FREE.
