Message: 97 Dakota, 4x4, 3.9l.
Just recently, while the truck is in motion, weahter I'm accelerating, deaccelerating, or coasting, I get a combination of bangs, clanks, clunks, grinding ect. Going down the raod at the same speed I can hear any one of them technical words described in any order or fasion. It can be perfectly quiet, then a few bangs come in, then quiet then maybe a low humming constant sort of jackhammer noise.
Figured it's gotta be drive train, the noise will vary with speed it seems. Its only when the truck is in motion and I get the same noise weather I'm driving in two or four wheel drive.
Thought it might have been something with the four wheel drive portion so my first look was really focussed on the front wheel drive train. Nothing appeared loose or anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Message: Have the tranny or rear end looked at. They are the usual suspects of that sort of noise. If it is the rear end and that sucker goes out say good bye to your tranny.

Message: Found the problem. Lifted the front end one more time to give it an old top to bottom wheel wiggle and check my ball joints. Both wheels felt like they were going to fall off. Wasnt the ball joints though, the wheel bearings on both sides were shot.
Thanks for the replies. Phew.......glad it isnt anything major.
