Message: have you ever heard of doin this?
Increase line pressure. Result: quicker, firmer shifts, less clutch slippage
Instructions: Drop the pan, look on the drivers side for a small plate with an allen screw with a spring behind it. (the head of the screw will be facing toward the drivers side of the truck also) Turn the screw ccw 1- 1/2 turns but no more the 2 turns or it will set off a MIL light on the dash.
will this actually work? i've got a 2002 3.9 auto 42re 4.10s & powertrax, don't really have the money for a shift kit/modded valve body and want more positive firm shifts, and also a longer lasting tranny. i've adjusted my tv cable slightly but hasn't really changed much, other than later shift points and it takes more pedal to get it to downshift. would this line pressure "mod" do the trick?

Message: Larry did advise me to do this to firm up the 2-3 shift. Will try it next time the pan's off.

Message: Yes I also sent you an email
You can use a acurate scale
from valve body to spring seat
1 5/16 factory setting
1 1/4 about 1 turn
1 3/16 max on the RE unless you install resister
to fake come out or you will get a code for trans
presure
55 to 60 psi in D idleing each turn will raise
this aprox 6 to 10 PSI
With a little wear and leakage in the trans it
is a quick fix that works to solve slipping and
bump shifts (slow eratic shifts)
Will not harm trans in any way

Message: alright, so just to make sure ive got it right. if i turn it ccw from where the screw is sitting at the factory setting, i can make an additional 1 3/16 turns before i've added too much line pressure and throw a code?
just wanna make sure i get the best line pressure for good firm shifts, and that i get it right the first time, and don't have to keep dropping the pan to back it down. let me know if i've got this right

RH you can take 4 turns with no probs this is also
true for the RE its just from 1 1/2 to 2 turns the
presure sensor will pick up the higher presure and
trip the mil light (melfunction indicater light)
yes I can not spell very well
On the RE I would go 1 1/2 and also check your
band adjustments to be sure they are correct
change fluid and filter RH 2 turns CC will move
the seat in and raise the pressure
counter clock wise raises
clock wise lowers
take a small file and put a mark on the screw
don't use magic marker it can come off very easy
and lose your spot, either shorten the short end
of an allen wrench or use a needle nose plyers
there is not much room between case and adjusting screw
TCI has a high flow very fine mesh filter that
will also help flow over the paper filters $21
with filter, filter gaskit and pan gasket
http://tciauto.com/tci.htm
or call and order direct from them they ship same
day if ordered before 2pm 662-224-8972 you
will find these TCI guys very friendly and great
to deal with I beleave Pat takes the orders
The
1 5/16 factory setting
1 1/4 heavy duty towing
1 3/16 high perf with shift kit
This is a mesurment where the adjusting screw is
from the valve body to spring seat not turns but
a distance, look at the TCI instructions they have
a pic of making this mesurement
