Message: For mild street towing and 4X4's
Here is how I do the kits on the 99 and newer trans
this will give you an idea of how to set it up
Install the new manual valve and adjust per instructions
be careful not to send the detent ball and spring across
your garage floor and spend a hour or so finding it.
prevents converter drain while sitting takes care of delayed
engagement at start up, file the notch also.
Drill the converter lube hole and mod the change valve
grind the TV valve .281 use the orange spring this will
allow you to raise your shift points via the TV cable adjustment
without bottoming the valve, also check the distance
from the valve body to spring seat .875 .900
on TCC change valve some
have adjustment screw some do not then just hit the
outside lightly to get this distance just a slight hit will push
the seat in. This gives you a more positive and firmer
lockup shift and release and sends more fluid to the TCC
torque converter clutch
Shift command, not needed unless you want the ability to manually
shift into low gear at any speed, if you do this you will also need
to install the spacer and spring in the rear servo for a clean
manual shift.
2-3 shift hole measure if bigger than listed .086 to .125 there
are a lot of plates already at .135 leave as is
1-2 hole stay .020 smaller than 2-3 hole
Snow plow and off road drill this hole to .93 if only 1 hole
there drill .125 to .187 this will firm up the 1-2 and 2-3
shift, test and enlarge for how firm you want these shifts
both the 1 hole plate and 2 hole plate this is in the same cavity.
enlarging the 2 hole plate small hole to .093 or enlarging the
1 hole plate has the same effect
2 hole use ball 1 hole remove ball and test before going
bigger on this hole, all transmissions will react diff to this change
install all other check balls
Lockup cover drill .062 1/16 no bigger this will help firm
lockup and add pressure and help slippage no bigger
unless you install the high temp low friction rings on
the forward drum and pump or you will blow them out
around .080 this will also raise the lockup shift aprox
2 to 3 mph, raises shift point
Install the yellow spring and orifice in the 3-4 accumulator
this will firm the 3-O/D shift and also delay engagement
aprox 2 to 5 mph, raises shift point
Install the blue pressure spring and turn up only 1 turn from
flush, any more and you take the chance of tripping the
mil light for pressure above normal, if this happens and
you want to take it higher you will need to install the resister
that comes with the kit
Install the spacer in the front servo this will help reaction
time on the 1-2 shift and kick down and add holding
power, less slipage and faster shifts
Adjust bands to factory settings and test if any 1-2
slip take the front band in 1/4 turn do not use the
recommended transgo settings to start with 72 inch
pounds or 6 foot and back off recommended number
of turns for your particular trans
This is a typical set up for 4X4 and towing vehicles
firm but not harsh
2 wheel drive tire chirping turn up more if you want and
if you want even firmer faster shifts install a blocker
rod in the 1-2 accumulator valve if you need the dimensions
for the blocker rod I will give them to you and any machine
shop can make you one for around $10 to $20
Remember how these trany's shift
1-2
2-3
3-O/D
O/D- Lockup
On most it works out fine but then there is always the guy
who wants a little more than you need to drop the valve
body and make changes, never reuse the gasket more
than twice or you chance a leak, Autozone has gaskets
for $2 and a filter kit for around $5 always use a new
filter when installing a shift kit
Fill with fresh fluid, ATF +4 or Amsoil syn just
to the bottom of safe mark, have the rear wheels
off the ground and test before driving to be sure you shift
all gears the speed will jump when it shifts and
lockup will not happen until it warms up if all OK
check fluid just to bottom of safe mark drive until
warm and recheck do not over fill this causes foaming
and will make your trans run hot
Use only carb cleaner, break clean or mineral spirits
parts cleaner, NEVER use gas or fuel oil they leave
a film that likes to make the valves sticky
Clean Clean Clean and take your time just a grain of
sand can stick a valve.
And watch so you don't drop the 1-2 accumulator valve
on the ground when lowering valve body its on the pass
side and will fall out when body is lowered some have
springs on one side some both sides
Valve body bolts - 35 inch pounds or 3 foot
Body to trans bolts - 105 inch pounds or 9 foot
Pan bolts - 13 foot pounds
Hope this helps ya out

on the rev
Wadak
on your 92 97 I would go TCI TransScat 220500
All done in valve body http://tciauto.com/instructions/220500_inst.htm
Set your TV so the valve bottoms at WOT and you
will have a very aggresive trans

Message: Vern
1 other thing could do that a sticky TCC change
valve located right next to presure screw distance
from body to spring seat should be .875 .900 if
more it may not be returning the valve and causing
the lockup TCC torque converter clutch, direct
clutch or what ever you want to call it
partialy enguaging this will cause hard rev and
foward shifts like you described
The best thing to do would be to replace the TCC
change valve with an upgraded version from sonnax

Message: Is torque lockup when the RPM drops lower right after a up or downshift, under steady acceleration? Lately this happens all the time at odd times and it makes my truck feel very sluggish. Would a new tcc valve help get rid of this?

Message: I just ordered the sonnax tcc valve (should I get the pressure valve too?) How much should the labor cost to get these installed, and do I have to have the fluid re-filled after?

Message: The TCC Valve from sonnax was designed for better
converter lube, reduce shudder and sliping with
better shifting into lockup
The presure valve was designed to reduce valve
buzz jumping up and down on presure causing iradic
shifts.
The TV is a replacement for the org that after
time begains to leak between the plunger and
sleave creating low shift points and not raising
presure like it should
You must drop valve body out to install me 1 hour
a shop about 2,
You can save and reuse your old fluid but if its
close to a change go ahead and replace it and
filter

Message: Howdy....newbie here.
You seem knowledgable about trannys so I have a question if you don't mind....
I have 2 86 RamChargers (one is a daily driver, the other is dedicated plow truck) both have 727's.
I just installed a Transgo TF-1 in the DD, however I opted NOT to install the "shift command" system. I have a Transgo SKTF SC kit waiting to go in the plow RC. I would like to do the shift command procedure to this truck using the "shift command" parts from the TF-1 kit.
Now my question, will this work? Is there anything else besides the block off plate and grinding valve mentioned in the instructions?
In other words, could the shift command be installed in ANY 727 without any other mods?
Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help.

change or grind the valve if you plan on manual
1-2 shifts at high rpm install the rear servo
spring and spacer (cusion blocke)
Mark never fixed my password so I have been
posting under cant post LOL

Message: Uh oh. My TF-1 instructions made no mention that the rear servo spring and spacer was for the "shift command" function, so I installed it on the DD that I did NOT install "shift command" on`.
I have since installed the SKTF SC kit, the block off plate and ground the valve to have "shift command" in my plow truck. I did not do anything with the rear servo on this. Does this pose a problem for either trans? (i.e. servo mod in trans WITHOUT shift command and shift command installed in other trans without servo mod).
Thanks for your help.

Message: Can someone tell me how the lock up torq converter should work on my 2000 3.9 4X4. It never unlocks like my GM tranmissions do befor it down shifts and it always locks up at the same time it goes into overdrive. It would be nice if it work more like my GM does. It is like having another gear when the lockup is delayed on up shifts and would really be nice if it unlocked before down shifting. Is this normal or dod I have a problem?

Message: You don't need to install the rear servo parts it
will work fine without but if your running 5000
rpm and shifting manualy sometimes you get some
over lap were it does not quite get out of 1st
before it goes into 2nd
But this applys more to the newer trans A500 518
the older 727 you referd to has a decient spring
in the rear servo so this prob will not happen
Lockup on the trans for the other guy here is
always at the same speed unless under load
low vac and higher throtle position volts
try setting your TPS up to .75 at idle it will
help raise the shift point with less throttle
