Message: My 93 has 280K plus on it.
Runs stronger now than when I got it in June of 93.
Problems...
:throw out bearing retaining pin
:u-joint
:speed sensor on tranny
:rear axle oil seals
Recently replaced....
:distributor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, crankshaft sensor, O2 sensor
Performance mods: 318 TB, 180 thermo, remove cat, hi-perf muffler, K&N air filter and cold air intake.
Very strong now, and mileage is 18 mpg @ highway speeds of 65-75mph. Commute on Hwy2 in Alberta.
Note to coydgreat - do the throtle positioner mod and put a 180 thermo in to keep air fuel ratios safe. Don't worry, if your O2 sensor is strong it will make sure that ratio is good.
Oh ya, cruise control stopped working about 4 years ago. No vacuum leaks, must be a busted wire. Have change module, and ECM for testing purposes - no change.
Absolutly no rust on body, had bumpers replaced with replated ones after minor fender bender. Big mistake, chrome is now peeling off and bumpers rusting through. I am now a firm believer of rust proofing a new vehicle as first owner.

Message: Here's the TPS mod link.

Don't forget: You must drop in a 185 thermo when installing a 318 TB. This compensates for the larger volume of air now breathing into the 3.9 and corrects any lean out scenarios that can burn valves and plugs.
BTW, just installed a new timing chain. WOW, what a difference in engine crispness. Don't know if I like the quiet engine... I can now hear belt drive pulley bearings that may need replacing <lol>
cheers

Message: Man you guys are lucky. I've basicly rebuilt the whole darn engine. It's a 93 v6 sport. But the main reason why has to be the fact the guy who had it before me just let the truck sit in a field for 4 years. When i went to tow it away it actually started and drove up on the trailer. At that moment i knew this truck would still kick ass...just one replacement part at a time. :) It's got 150000 miles on it.

Message: Put some blame on yourself. If that truck sat that long and you started it before ever changing the oil you did damage.

Message: Basicly when i said rebuilt the engine, all the electical has been redone, and everything that involves the coolant has been replaced (water pump, radiator,...). None of that would involve driving it 15 feet to put it on the trailer. And when i only paid $500 for it. there isn't a whole lot to expect for a car that was only $500. Instead of a car payment have part to pay for

Message: The 3.9 is one hell of a motor and with good
maintainance they will run 500,000 miles with
the weakest spot being the timming chain
If you go to the Alpar website and click on the
1/2 million mile club you will see dakotas with
over 500,000 miles listed
I have 130,000 on my 92 motor in my 95 and it runs
great and uses no oil
my org 95 motor was stroked when it had 80,000
I am pulling 19.5 20mpg in the cold with the
hotter cam thats great
