Subject: 1998 AC NOT BLOWING IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1998 dakota 3.9l and when I turn on the ac it blows but only from the defrost setting. When i turn it on it automatically goes to the defrost and only blows from under the windshield. Does anyone know what this could be. Thanks

Message: Possible vacuum leak. Look for damaged, cracked, split or otherwise leaking vacuum lines/hoses. If inspection shows nothing, spray some cleaning agent (like throttle body cleaner) on all the vacuum lines (with the engine idling). If you notice a stumble or change in the engine's idle while spraying, then you have located the leaking area.

Message: Hopefully yours will be a vacuum leak as described above. Mine ('02 SLT) had the same problem a while back and it turned out to be broken plastic in the damper box under the dash. Expensive if you have to take it to the dealer. I lucked out - extended warranty covered it.

Message: possibly a vac line loose from the heater control module under the dash board... you have to remove the heater control panel so you can get at the back and see....
