 Subject: dodge dakota timing chain?

I went to start my dodge and it was chugging bad then quit, try to start it again and all i can hear is the starter turning the engine fan and belts is turning. Did the timing chain break? I have had problems with the timing chain before and it been nocking (bearing) since I bought it.
95 v6 sport ext cab.

pull the dist cap and see if the rotor is turning
put on TDC and see if the rotor button is right
near the cyl on the pickup plate in dist to see
if the chain jumped
