Message:
has any one tried using a camshaft from a magnum v6 on a non magnum engine. i've heard that the block is in fact the same. the only diffrence is the intake and heads. im asking because the magnum has more duration on the intake.
thanks

The mag cam has a steeper ramp than a non roller
cam and will destroy itself using it with flat
non roller tappets

Mopar makes 2 cams for the V6 pre mag use one of
them unless you like head aches

As long as you have lifters that oil, and hollow pushrods with the rockers that have a matching hole in the pushrod cup (like the late 80's LA Mopars), your system will oil properly. Magnum cams do not have oil holes in the journals to oil via the traditional LA-style head passages through the rocker shafts. Something to consider about the swap.....the Magnums use 1.6:1 rockers, LA's use 1.52:1, so the Magnum cam will actually be tamed down (to right about what the stock LA cam is), thus losing any benefits, unless you are also adding 1.6:1 rockers.

most the 88-91 premag v6s have the roller cam that i,ve worked on,they have less lift than the mag cam

premag-.373int,.400exh,@ the valve with 1.5 rocker ratio, with a 1.6 rocker it will get you about .400int and .430exh

mag-.432int,.432exh,@ the valve with 1.6 rocker ratio

J&J was right
you cant run a roller cam with flat tappets
if the difference in the 2 cams are flat tappet
and roller they cant be swapped

thanks guys i am planning on running the magnum
roller cam. i just want sure if the cam for the magnum v6 would fit in the 88-91 block. i am also using the roller lifters and roller rockers 1.6 ratio. i know i have to use special pushrods. anybody know where i can get the lifter guide plate. and the clips that hold the pair of lifters from spinning in the lifter bore?

you should already have a roller cam in a 90 3.9,
it,s just a milder cam,by going with 1.6 rockers you,ll be close to a mag cams lift which is,nt great,

if you check to see you,ll more than likely find you have the push rods with the oiling holes, also that the rockers and lifters have the oil holes

just trying to save you some time, money and trouble looking for parts you have now
